Chelsea’s Pedro Neto Named ‘Best Summer Signing’ Despite Slow Start
Pedro Neto, Chelsea’s £54 million summer signing from Wolves, has been surprisingly hailed as the “best transfer of the summer,” despite his relatively quiet start in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old winger, who has yet to score in the league this season, has impressed in cup competitions, scoring twice. Glen Johnson, a former Chelsea defender, voiced his excitement about Neto’s potential, despite his slow start, in a recent interview with Betfred.
Johnson acknowledged that while Neto “is not looking his best yet,” he believes the winger could make a significant impact once he reaches full form. Johnson highlighted Neto’s reputation from his time at Wolves, noting that Chelsea paid a substantial fee for the Portuguese star, which indicates the club’s high expectations.
Neto replaced Jadon Sancho at halftime in Chelsea’s recent 2-1 loss to Liverpool, but he wasn’t able to prevent the defeat. Johnson believes Neto has the ability to eventually replace Sancho in Chelsea’s starting lineup, adding that Neto is a “fantastic player” who can thrive once he’s in top form.
While Sancho has also shown moments of promise, Johnson sees the competition between the two players as a positive for Chelsea. Having two talented wingers battling for the same position could push both players to perform at their highest level, which Johnson views as a “fantastic problem” for the club.
