Malo Gusto: “We are fighting for the best trophies”
Malo Gusto shows he has faith in Chelsea’s ability to climb further up the Premier League table after the club went into the international break in November in third place.
“We are competing for the best honours, the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Conference League.”
“The season is still long. We have quite a few matches to play, but I am sure we will show our best football.”
Chelsea are nine points behind league leaders Liverpool, while Manchester City are four points ahead of the Blues.
Malo Gusto has embraced the intense competition for spots at Chelsea, especially his ongoing challenge with Reece James for the right-back position.
While Gusto is currently the first-choice right-back, he acknowledges that having a deep, talented squad is essential to maintaining Chelsea’s performance throughout the season, especially in a physically demanding schedule with Premier League, UEFA Conference League, and domestic cup commitments.
He pointed out that the squad’s depth prevents burnout, saying, “Otherwise we will die,” emphasizing the need for rotation to keep everyone at their peak.
Gusto highlighted the positive dynamic between himself and James, sharing that they push each other and occasionally play together, allowing flexibility in the lineup. This has been evident with James, the club captain, taking on different roles, even starting some matches on the left.
Gusto expressed respect for James and insisted their relationship is strong, with both players focused on supporting the team.
Pedro Neto’s recent performances further underscore the strength of Chelsea’s roster. His adaptability and quality off the bench have seen him earn more starts, illustrating Maresca’s tactical advantage in having players who can fill multiple roles.
Gusto believes this depth will be critical for Chelsea as they aim to compete on multiple fronts, noting, “We just try to stay all together to create something… and to win everything.”
