Cesare Casadei Impresses for Italy U21s: A Message to Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca
Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei has made an impression on the international stage, delivering a clear message to manager Enzo Maresca.
The 21-year-old previously worked under Maresca during a loan spell at Leicester City in the first half of last season.
He returned to Stamford Bridge in January, making occasional substitute appearances.
Despite their prior relationship, Casadei has found it challenging to secure a regular spot in Chelsea’s first team this season under Maresca.
So far, he has only been included as an unused substitute in two Premier League matches, while missing out on the squad for the rest.
His limited appearances have been confined to the UEFA Conference League and the Carabao Cup third round against Barrow.
Currently on international duty with Italy’s U21 team, Casadei has wasted no time showcasing his talents. He scored the opening goal in a friendly against France, his second goal in as many games for his country after netting in a 1-1 draw with Ireland U21s last month.
Italy U21s are set to face Ukraine on Tuesday, providing another opportunity for Casadei to make an impact and catch Maresca’s attention.
With the January transfer window approaching, there is speculation about Casadei’s future at Chelsea.
A loan move could be on the cards to help him gain more experience. The midfielder was also linked with a permanent move during the summer but opted to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Addressing transfer rumors in October, Casadei expressed his commitment to Chelsea:
“The transfer rumours about Napoli, Milan, and even Juve? After speaking to the coach, I was 100% sure that staying was the best decision,” he said. “Maresca told me what he thought, and I had no doubts. I stayed here without considering possible loans. Nor do I think so at the moment for the next winter transfer market. I couldn’t be more proud to play for Chelsea. The competitive spirit was one of the reasons why I decided not to leave.”
