Chelsea Eyes Antonee Robinson as Left-Back Option for Added Depth
This season, Marc Cucurella has established himself as Chelsea’s primary left-back, featuring in 17 Premier League matches. While Renato Veiga and Malo Gusto have stepped in when needed, and Ben Chilwell remains at Chelsea for the time being, Enzo Maresca has plenty of options in that position.
Despite this, Chelsea is reportedly still on the lookout for additional left-back options as the January transfer window opens. Following their recent defeat to Ipswich Town, Cucurella spoke out about the issues they faced in the match.
The club continues to monitor Fulham’s Antonee Robinson, a player they have shown interest in since March. According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea has maintained close watch over the 27-year-old’s performances. Fulham reportedly values Robinson at around £40 million, which is within reach for a club like Chelsea.
Robinson has been instrumental for Marco Silva’s team this season, playing a crucial role in their 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last month. He also impressed by limiting Mohamed Salah’s influence in Fulham’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool, earning praise from Silva, who called his performance “unbelievable.”
Journalist Sam Blitz recently highlighted Robinson’s standout moments, noting his strong defense against Bukayo Saka in Fulham’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal and his excellent duel with Salah at Anfield.
If Robinson has been auditioning for a move to Chelsea, he’s certainly passed the test. The USA international has proven himself as one of the Premier League’s top left-backs, showing he can contend with the league’s best. Adding Robinson to a left-back rotation with Cucurella would give Chelsea fantastic depth in that position.
