“Absolutely” – Enzo Maresca Confirms Chelsea’s Commitment to Christopher Nkunku Amid Speculation
Enzo Maresca has addressed speculation surrounding Christopher Nkunku’s future at Chelsea, following reports that the French forward is unhappy with his limited playing time.
Despite the rumors linking Nkunku with a potential January move, including interest from Manchester United under new manager Ruben Amorim, Maresca has expressed a clear intention to keep the player at the club.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League match against Heidenheim, Maresca clarified his discussions with Nkunku:

The Chelsea boss emphasized his commitment to retaining Nkunku:
“Absolutely (I want to keep him). I completely want Christo to stay; there is no idea to allow him to go in January.”
Maresca explained that Nkunku’s limited game time is primarily due to squad balance and competition for his preferred position as a No. 10. Players like Cole Palmer, who is currently in outstanding form, and João Félix occupy similar roles, making it challenging to fit them all into the starting XI.

“We know that Christo’s best position is between the line as a 10. Cole is playing there. We will not play many games with Cole and Christo, or Cole and Joao. They are all fantastic players and will play, but not every game.
“The same issue we mention many times with Joao. If you play with Cole, Joao, Christo, Noni – who is defending? Their skill is not defending; it is to attack. We love them, we want them, but we need balance.”
Nkunku will aim to earn more minutes during the busy festive schedule, as Chelsea remains active in both the Premier League and Conference League. Maresca’s comments underline the club’s belief in Nkunku’s importance to the squad, despite the challenges posed by competition for places.
