Axel Disasi Praises Jadon Sancho After First Chelsea Goal
Wednesday night was one to remember for Chelsea, as they delivered a commanding 5-1 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s.
Among the standout performances was Jadon Sancho, who scored his first goal for Chelsea since joining the club from Manchester United this summer.
Sancho’s goal capped a strong individual display, and he continues to grow in confidence under the guidance of head coach Enzo Maresca.
Teammate Axel Disasi, who also scored on the night, has joined the growing list of those praising the winger for his impact at Stamford Bridge.

Disasi: “We Are All Happy for Him”
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website after the game, Disasi expressed his delight for Sancho, highlighting both his on-field contributions and off-field personality.
“It’s something he was waiting for, and we are all happy for him because since he joined us he has done a great job. He’s a great guy with a great personality, so I’m happy for him,” said the French defender.
Disasi’s words echo the sentiments of others at the club, including Jason Cundy, who recently commended Sancho’s performance in Chelsea’s 3-0 victory against Aston Villa.

Sancho’s Growing Influence
Since his summer move, Sancho has featured in nine games for Chelsea across all competitions, contributing five goal involvements.
This productivity has made him a valuable asset in Maresca’s evolving side, and his performance against Southampton will undoubtedly boost his confidence further.
In addition to Sancho, fellow winger Noni Madueke also found the net at St Mary’s. Madueke credited Maresca’s coaching for his improved goalscoring form this season, with the manager’s tactical approach clearly paying dividends for Chelsea’s attacking players.

Sancho shared his excitement on Instagram, writing: “First goal, unforgettable feeling. Strong team performance. See you Sunday, blues!” Palmer responded with the comment: “one per cent,” followed by a brick emoji, symbolizing the team’s growing unity and resilience.
Maresca’s Perspective
Reflecting on the performance, Maresca highlighted the variety of contributors to Chelsea’s goals. “The way we played with the two wingers, two attacking midfielders, and the No. 9 are in charge of the goals,” Maresca noted during his post-match press conference.
Scorers on the night included Sancho, Palmer, Noni Madueke, Nicolas Jackson, and Christopher Nkunku, illustrating the depth of Chelsea’s attacking options. “It’s a good feeling that all of them can be involved in the goals,” Maresca added.
Balancing Positives and Room for Improvement
Despite the emphatic scoreline, Maresca acknowledged the team’s early struggles in the match. “We were not pressing them man-to-man in the first 15 minutes, and this made it hard to recover the ball,” he explained. Once adjustments were made, Chelsea dominated.
Maresca also expressed satisfaction with Chelsea’s defensive solidity, noting, “I think there are just three or four teams that have conceded less than us.”
Eyes on the London Derby
With their attacking prowess firing on all cylinders, Chelsea now shifts focus to Sunday’s London derby against Tottenham. Fans and players alike will hope to build on this momentum as the Blues continue their pursuit of a strong finish to the festive season.
Who Should Start Against Tottenham?
Chelsea’s next test is a high-stakes London derby against Tottenham on Sunday. Maresca has a wealth of attacking options to choose from, with Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke both vying for starting spots alongside Sancho.
Pedro Neto, described by talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan as a great addition to Chelsea, has been a consistent performer since his arrival. However, given Sancho’s impactful performances and his first goal in a blue shirt, he may have done enough to earn a starting role in the derby.
Maresca will need to carefully balance his lineup, as Chelsea aim to maintain their momentum and close the gap in the title race. With Tottenham also in fine form, the clash promises to be a thrilling encounter.
