Kai Havertz Reflects on Chelsea Exit and Arsenal Success
Kai Havertz has opened up about his transfer from Chelsea to Arsenal, describing the move as the best decision of his career. The German international switched from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates in the summer of 2023 for £65 million, leaving behind a mixed spell with the Blues to thrive under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.
A Turning Point in His Career
During his three seasons at Chelsea, Havertz struggled to meet the expectations tied to his £71 million move from Bayer Leverkusen. Despite notable moments, including his winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final, criticism of his finishing persisted.
However, Havertz has found a new lease of life at Arsenal, where he netted 13 Premier League goals last season — his best-ever tally in the competition — and has already scored nine goals in 20 matches this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Havertz reflected on his journey:
“I enjoy it, every second. For me, it was the best thing I could have done. I’m so glad for the support and everyone who has helped me during my time. I’ve just got started and I hope to continue in good form, play well, win titles, and help the team to win something.”
Leading Arsenal’s Attack
Havertz has cemented his role as Arsenal’s first-choice striker, holding off competition from Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard. He has started in 13 of Arsenal’s 14 Premier League games this season, helping the Gunners maintain their attacking edge, even during a challenging spell without captain Martin Ødegaard.
Arsenal’s Season So Far
Although Arsenal endured a rocky patch earlier in the campaign, they have regained momentum with strong wins over Nottingham Forest, Sporting, West Ham, and Manchester United. However, the team still sits seven points behind league leaders Liverpool and trails Chelsea on goal difference.
Havertz remains optimistic:
“We’re still in the first part of the season, and anything can happen… Liverpool have reached the top level again, but there are a lot of games to play and points to get, so we will definitely be ready for the fight.”

Burning Bridges with Chelsea?
While Havertz expressed gratitude for his time at Chelsea, his comments about Arsenal being the best move for his career could sting Chelsea fans, especially given his history of high-profile contributions, including their Champions League triumph.
As Arsenal look to challenge for the Premier League title, Havertz’s resurgence underscores the impact of a fresh start in the right system, a testament to his ability and Arteta’s vision.
