Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall Sets Trophy Expectations for Chelsea in Conference League
Chelsea midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has issued a bold declaration regarding the club’s ambitions in the UEFA Conference League, stating that anything less than lifting the trophy would be deemed a “failure.”
The Blues continued their flawless campaign in the competition with a 3-1 victory against Astana in Kazakhstan, maintaining their 100% record and securing their spot in the play-offs. With one group-stage match remaining, Chelsea sits comfortably at the top of the table and is almost certain to finish in the top eight.
A Role in Europe for Dewsbury-Hall Since his £30 million move from Leicester City this summer, Dewsbury-Hall has found opportunities in the Premier League hard to come by, featuring for just 55 minutes across the season. Instead, most of his contributions have come in cup competitions, where Enzo Maresca has frequently rotated his squad. The 26-year-old has started four of Chelsea’s five Conference League matches and both of their League Cup ties.
Despite limited league action, Dewsbury-Hall has been a consistent presence in European fixtures. In Astana’s icy -12°C conditions, he played the full 90 minutes and delivered his first assist of the season—a perfectly placed corner that Renato Veiga headed in during the 39th minute.
“Win It or It’s a Failure” Speaking after the match, Dewsbury-Hall left no room for ambiguity about Chelsea’s goals in the competition.
“Win it. Yes, it’s that simple—we have to win, take the title. If we don’t win it, it will be a failure,” he said.

Looking Ahead Dewsbury-Hall’s determination reflects Chelsea’s growing confidence under Maresca, as the team blends youth development with experienced additions to great effect. With the knockout stages approaching, the Blues are poised to make a serious push for the Conference League title—anything less, as Dewsbury-Hall insists, would fall short of expectations.
