Madueke Confident Amid Chelsea’s Surge in Title Race
Noni Madueke delivered an emphatic message following Chelsea’s 5-1 demolition of Southampton, asserting, “Of course we are up for it,” when asked about the Blues’ involvement in the Premier League title race. The 22-year-old winger, who scored and assisted in the victory, played a key role in the win and was named Player of the Match.
While maintaining a cautious outlook on the title race, Madueke emphasized Chelsea’s focus on consistent improvement.
“Whether we are in it or not is a different question. However, we are taking every game as it comes. We are trying to progress, trying to get better, and focusing on ourselves.”
Chelsea Closing the Gap
The dominant victory over Southampton has brought Chelsea within seven points of leaders Liverpool, who dropped points at Newcastle. Meanwhile, Manchester City ended their slump with a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest, keeping them just two points behind Chelsea and Arsenal.
Chelsea’s attacking flair under Enzo Maresca has been a revelation this season. With 31 goals in 14 matches, no Premier League team has outscored the Blues. Despite Maresca downplaying their title aspirations, the results and performances suggest a team with growing confidence and cohesion.
The Maresca Effect
Madueke credited Maresca for instilling belief and unlocking the potential of a youthful Chelsea squad.
“I feel like we look like a more serious team this season, a team that is there to really put teams away and win games comfortably. It’s credit to the manager and the players.”
The winger highlighted the progression of young players gaining experience and a manager with “great ideas” as factors in Chelsea’s resurgence.
Tottenham Showdown Looms
Chelsea now turn their attention to a crucial London derby against Tottenham. With Spurs grappling with injuries and Chelsea riding a wave of momentum, this fixture could further bolster the Blues’ bid to keep pace in the title race. For fans and players alike, this game carries even more weight in a season where every point matters.
