Enzo Maresca Confirms Chelsea Are ‘Close’ to Agreement with Reece James Successor
Chelsea is reportedly close to securing a new deal for one of their promising young talents, Josh Acheampong.
The 18-year-old full-back, who is currently under contract until 2026, has shown potential but is attracting attention due to his expiring contract, prompting Chelsea to move quickly to tie him down to a longer-term agreement.
Head coach Enzo Maresca spoke highly of Acheampong ahead of Chelsea’s Conference League match against Astana, revealing that the club values the young player highly and is working on finalizing a new deal:
“He’s in the squad and is probably going to play from the start. With Josh, it’s quite clear, we all love Josh, the club love Josh and I love Josh. We are trying to find an agreement with the player. It’s close, we are almost there.”
Acheampong, who has already made one senior league appearance for Chelsea, is expected to feature in Thursday’s match, indicating his rising importance within the squad.
