Robert Sanchez has cautioned Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana following Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest on Sunday evening.
Chelsea saw their five-match winning streak come to an end as they were held to a hard-fought draw by Forest. Chris Wood put Forest ahead early in the second half, but Noni Madueke equalized with a fine strike. Despite late chances for both teams, goalkeepers Sanchez and Matz Sels made crucial saves to keep the game level.
While Chelsea remained unbeaten after the first leg, they will be disappointed not to have secured a win, especially after Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku missed key opportunities to score in the closing moments.
Although the team played well, they lacked a clinical edge in front of goal, despite some promising moments during the match.
Sanchez, who had made mistakes in Chelsea’s previous match against Brighton, redeemed himself with several vital saves to prevent a loss to Forest.
A significant downside from the match was Cucurella and Fofana picking up their fifth yellow cards of the season, which means they will be suspended for Chelsea’s upcoming clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
After the game, Sanchez addressed the issue of their yellow cards in an interview with Premier League Productions, as reported by BBC Sport. He emphasized the need for both players to manage their behavior better on the pitch.
“Our players were very strong, but we were unlucky. The suspension of Cucurella and Fofana? They need to stop talking to the referees. We have some very good players who will replace them. However, extra yellow cards are far from necessary,” said Sanchez.
Sanchez’s comments highlight his concern about the discipline of his teammates, urging them to avoid unnecessary bookings that could hurt the team’s performance in future matches.
