What Maresca has said to Chelsea about Aaron Anselmino returning to club
Argentine talent Aaron Anselmino is set to join Chelsea’s first-team squad this week. After his time at Boca Juniors, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Anselmino would return to Chelsea at the start of the new year.
With the January transfer window now open, the club faces an important decision regarding the 19-year-old central defender. Chelsea could either keep Anselmino with the squad for the remainder of the season or send him out on loan. However, a loan to Strasbourg isn’t possible due to the high number of loanees already at the French club.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is eager to assess Anselmino before making a final decision. According to journalist Simon Phillips, Maresca has expressed interest in evaluating the youngster in training before deciding whether to keep him or loan him out for the second half of the season.
Phillips shared this information via his Substack, Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, saying that Maresca wants to thoroughly assess Anselmino’s capabilities.
Anselmino could potentially replace Axel Disasi, who struggled in Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Ipswich Town. Disasi’s poor performance, including a costly error leading to the second goal, has raised questions about his future at the club, with rumors of a potential move away from Stamford Bridge.
Boca Juniors, where Anselmino was previously playing, are likely disappointed to see the young defender leave. The club’s president, Juan Roman Riquelme, a former Argentina international, holds Anselmino in high regard.
Riquelme praised his growth and potential, saying, “He is on his way to being a great footballer. He is going to be a player for the national team. He is going to compete with the centre-backs.”

With his undeniable talent and potential, Chelsea’s decision to bring him into the fold suggests the club is preparing for a bright future with the young star.
