Why Enzo Maresca Was Warned Chelsea Star Enzo Fernandez ‘Isn’t Suited to the Premier League
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez is under scrutiny from former players and analysts, who question his suitability for the Premier League. William Gallas, a former Chelsea defender, argues that despite Fernandez’s quality, the Premier League’s demanding physicality might not be the best fit for him.
Gallas highlighted that Fernandez, while technically gifted, must improve his consistency, physicality, and fitness to handle the rigorous expectations of a box-to-box role.
He noted that although Fernandez has had opportunities off the bench—such as a recent appearance against Manchester United—he’ll need to maximize these chances to secure a regular place in Chelsea’s lineup.

Maresca has, however, stressed that Fernandez still has a role in his long-term plans, hinting that the Argentine’s ability to impact games later in the season could be crucial.
Graeme Souness also voiced doubts about Fernandez’s fit at Chelsea, suggesting that the club might not see the return on investment they anticipated when they spent a British record £105 million on him.
Souness expressed concerns that Fernandez and other recent signings may struggle to meet the club’s expectations.
Despite the critiques, Fernandez, who is currently on a contract with Chelsea until 2032 and reportedly earning £180,000 a week, has shown a willingness to stay and fight for his place.
Both Barcelona and Inter Milan have shown interest in him, but Fernandez appears committed to proving his worth in the Premier League.
